Fatima Kawtharani "Blue or Pink?"
Opening: Thursday, April 21 at 7pm
The exhibition will last until May 26
Art Circle cordially invites you, on April 21, to the opening of “Blue or Pink?”, a solo show by Lebanese artist Fatima Kawtharani.
Blue or Pink? Boy or Girl? This solo exhibition by artist Fatima Kawtharani revolves around her life, relationships, namely those with her family members. A constant feeling of childhood swivels around Kawtharani, it watches her, plays with her, accompanies her throughout her white canvases, forcing her naturally to use childish symbols such as fish, flowers, birds and geometrical shapes. Inside the artist lives a big playful child, wanting to play with toys, and later on break them. This is how the creative game starts with the artist. Coincidences at once, and thoughts on a child’s life and motherhood at others, are portrayed in Kawtharani’s paintings.
Born in 1971, Fatima Kawtharani graduated in 1994 from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Lebanese University where she is currently achieving her Master’s degree. She has exhibited frequently in her home country namely the Salon d’Automne of the Musée Sursock in Beirut, as well as abroad.
On opening night, Fatima Kawtharani will be present to meet you and discuss her work.
As I have mentioned numerous times before, Salone Internazionale del Mobile, also known as Milan Furniture Fair, is the fair that designers and suppliers look forward to the most among exhibitions of the same nature. During this fair all brands and designers showcase their latest designs and trends for the coming year. In this post I will show you a preview of a few of the items that will be highlighted at the fair.
This Fair, Vitra will introduce the new Tip Ton Chair, that was designed in cooperation with British design studio BarberOsgerby.
The rocking base of the chair allows dynamic sitting which stabilizes the spine and encourages blood circulation. I am definitely getting one of those. This chair is stackable, comes in many colors, and best of all moves with you.

The Geneva Motorshow taking place from March 3-13 2011 will showcase many “stars” as they called them. This year BMW MINI introduces the Rocketman, the smallest vehicle the brand has produced since 1959. The MINI has to be one of my favorite cars.
On March 1, 2011, Kevin Lyons customized Chanel handbags at the CHANEL-COLETTE ephemeral boutique, rue Saint-Honoré, Paris for the opening of its Pop-Up shop. On display were an assortment of classic Chanel products, such as quilted bags, leather gloves and various apparel.

Spring will arrive early to New York this year. In an attempt to transform Park Avenue into a fanciful garden, Will Ryman creates 38 sculptures of rose blossoms towering as high as 25 feet, complimented by 20 individual scattered rose petals, to be installed along Park Avenue from January 25 through May 31, 2011.
Reflecting Ryman’s flair for the dramatic and absurdly wonderful, roses painted in shades of pink and red will spring up in vibrant contrast to the traditionally bleaker winter months preceding spring in the artist’s large-scale love letter to New York City.
As much as I was looking forward to discovering new brands, rediscovering the well known ones and checking what they have been up to was even more intriguing. The experience at Maison & Objet2011 was amazing, almost anyone who has been to their previous fairs admitted that this year the traffic was higher. People are eager to discover what’s new. Among the stands I visited are Christofle, Bernardaud, Lladro, Baccarat, Antolini, Guaxs,PTMD, and THS whom introduced a new line of mixers designed by Daum. Enjoy the photos, still more to come.
One of the furniture brands that really stood out in terms display in collection was Baxter. This collection is by the creative designer Paola Navone, known for her urban and laid back designs.

Maison & Objet is an exhibition that takes place twice a year in France. The exhibition is mainly for products and services related to design, whether furniture, finishes, fabrics, accessories, kitchenware, decorative items, new materials, graphics, design services, etc… During this event most brands release their latest collections or products or just display items from previous collections. Agents usually place orders for their shops as well. Activities take place during the exhibition such as lectures and competitions.
It was a great opportunity for me to be able to attend this year and experience this event. I will post photos as we go by and will divide them over more than one blog post.

For those of you who grew up watching Seinfeld, and clung on almost every episode like I did, you will definitely get this ! This is not a cult or anything, I love all holidays but this one in particular cracks me up. Since it December 23, I would love to wish you all a Happy Festivus!
Many Christmas’s ago, Frank Costanza went to buy a doll for George. There was only one doll left and when he reached for it, so did another man. After struggling for the doll, he thought there could be another way. The doll was destroyed, but out of that, a new holiday was born. It was called Festivus. A Festivus for the rest-iv-us..
Lebanese Architect Bernard Khoury joined the ranks of Sir Richard Branson, Jenson Button, Marc Herremans and Louis Hamilton as one of the giants Johnnie Walker wants us to Keep Walking with.
The “Keep Walking” mantra is over a decade old and embodies an unwavering determination to succeed despite adversity. The campaign has celebrated Lebanon in times of happiness, and helped uplift the Lebanese spirit in times of despair, making Lebanon, as General Manager Levant Tony Amine puts it “especially used to the Keep Walking attitude.”
Bernard Khoury is a world-renowned architect whose projects have become national monuments celebrated across the world. However, his ever-evolving, dynamic design concepts faced considerable challenges after his graduation from the Rhode Island School of Design in New York. It wasn’t till B018 was built, by Bernard Khoury’s own initiative, direction and oversight, that Lebanon and the world came to realize the avant-gardiste spirit of the man once dismissed as just an unrealistic “paper architect.”
B018 was completely revamped for the Johnnie Walker “Keep Walking with Bernard Khoury” party, with posh furniture, huge flat screens, elaborate lighting and of course a huge projection on the retractable roof of the upcoming campaign.
Beirut Exhibition Center (BEC), is the first structure dedicated to contemporary art in the new waterfront development area. Designed by L.E.FT, the BEC responds to its location, a constantly shifting context, and contributes to a new skyline for the city. Simultaneously the interior is in constant motion with the shifting of exhibitions and as L.E.FT described, “the architecture is trapped in a dynamic state of limbo.”
Starting December 1,2010, Mont Blanc are asking you to be part of this festive season. Each day they will be sharing a story until Christmas Eve. The idea as all of Mont Blanc’s campaigns are very creative and people oriented. Her story and the reply she received have become part of American History and culture.
